The City Vice Mayor chairs the General Assembly of the National Council of Persons with Disabilities at city level

On March 17, 2024, the City of Kigali Vice Mayor in charge of Socio-Econimic Affairs Madam. Urujeni Martine, chaired the National Council of Persons with Disabilities’ General Assembly at City Hall. The session’s objectives were to endorse the Fiscal Year 2023/2024 report and strategize for 2024/2025.

Key discussions included enhancing inclusivity in education, healthcare access, and infrastructure accessibility. The Vice Mayor highlighted Kigali’s initiatives supporting disabled individuals, notably:

The Girubucuruzi fund, which has over 100 million Rwandan Francs for disability support at the sector level.Mandating disability access in major facilities, a standard for construction and occupation permits.

The Vice Mayor commended the NCPD’s advocacy efforts and reaffirmed the leadership's commitment to partnering with the NCPD to uphold the rights and improve the quality of life for persons with disabilities.

The National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) in Rwanda is a governmental body dedicated to empowering, supporting, and promoting the inclusion of persons with disabilities. It focuses on advocacy for disability rights and ensures that individuals with disabilities can live and enjoy their rights equally.
