The City of Kigali Officiated the handover of Ampersand E-Motorcycles to 24 Women as motorists

Tuesday, 15 November - The City of Kigali Vice Mayor in Charge of Socio-Economic Affairs, Urujeni Martine joined different stakeholders in the official handover of Ampersand E-Motorcycles to 24 women taxi drivers who successfully participated in the first cohort of female electric motorcycle taxi drivers.

The Empersand Rwanda provided those E-Motorcycles after several months of training to obtain their Taxi Motor licence in United Driving School! 

 “We congratulate you and we encourage you to go and do it professionally, we are sure that you will make it and the job is waiting for you. No one is allowed to harass you and it’s up to you to fight for your respect and to report any harassment.” The City Vice Mayor Urujeni Martine.

Emmanuel Hakizimana the Country Director at Ampersand, revealed that they have paid insurance to all 24-moto taxi for those women to be safe in that transport.

Beneficiaries were extremely happy for that achievement, Irakiza Bernadette “I don’t know how to express my joy today.  After getting all documents of my taxi moto, I am going to be self-reliant and change my life."


So far more than 25 thousand moto taxi drivers who are in Kigali are male and only eight were women. The 24 women new moto taxi drivers will bridge the gap between men and women in taxi moto transport in Kigali.
