The City of Kigali kicks off the 4th mass campaign on NCDs prevention

This Tuesday 14th May 2019, the Mayor of the City of Kigali, Rwakazina Marie Chantal launched the week of mass awareness campaign on communicable diseases prevention and free screening and it is the 4th campaign from 2016.

During the campaign week that start from 13th to 19th  May 2019,seven sites have been selected for this event; Four Medicalized Health Centers (Remera, Gatenga, Nyarurenzi and Kanyinya), Car free zone City of Kigali in Nyarugenge District, Kimironko in Gasabo and Kicukiro Centre in Kicukiro District.

Activities on sites nclude behavior change communication vis-à-vis non communicable disease risk factors and screening for HTA, Glycemia and BMI by trained volunteers.

The campaign was organized by The City of Kigali in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Rwanda Biomedical Center and Enabel, the Belgian development agency.

In Launching that Campaign, the Mayor of Kigali City,Marie Chantal Rwakazina encouraged everyone to do screening so that he or she may take prevention.

“It is very important to know your status on these non communicable disease, we have brought the campaign to health centres so that more people have easier access to these tests,” she said.

She added that the city authorities and partners had brought these services to car-free day events twice a month with an aim to continue building a healthy society which is more productive.

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are one of the major health and development challenges of the 21st century, in terms of both the human suffering they cause and the harm they inflict on the socioeconomic fabric of countries.
