New City Vice Mayor sworn in


The new vice Mayor in charge of social affairs in the City of Kigali Muhongerwa Patricia was today sworn in. Madam Muhongerwa won by-elections to replace Kazaire Judith who was appointed Governor in the Eastern Province.

While officiating the swearing in ceremony the Minister of local Government Kaboneka Francis who was also the guest of honour encouraged the new Vice Mayor to use her past experience in supporting the needy and as a former district council chairperson to address some of the problems the city is facing.
“You were a district council chairperson  where you were involved in decision making and supervising the district activities, use that experience this time to implement the different policies in the City of Kigali,” Minister Kaboneka emphasized to the new vice mayor.

Minister Kaboneka also reminded the new vice mayor that in her swearing in she has committed to serve the country and the people. Therefore she has to put the interests of the people before her personal interests.

In her campaign Madam Muhongerwa Patricia vowed to work with the communities in order to mobilise them to own the public hygiene drive in the City of Kigali. “We shall draw lessons from the partnership between the police and the communities in community policing and we shall introduce this best practice in the hygiene campaign in the different communities in our city,” Vice Mayor Muhongerwa Patricia pointed out in her camapaign.

Muhongerwa Patricia who was a Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs brings with her a long experience of working in the areas of social services and customer care. She also served as the Chairperson of Nyagatare District Council in the Eastern Province.

In the by-elections Madam Muhongerwa beat Dr. Mpfurankunda Pravda with over 114 votes to 39 votes.
