The National Electoral Commission (NEC) has announced that by-elections for the position of Mayor of the City of Kigali will take place on Friday 17th February 2017.

“Elections to replace the mayor of Kigali City are due on 17th February 2017 at Rwanda Revenue Authority room at 10:00 hours in Kimihurura,” said NEC via twitter.

The former Mayor Mukaruliza Monique was appointed Rwanda’s ambassador to Zambia on 3rd February 2017 by the cabinet meeting.   

The Mayor of the City of Kigali is elected by an electoral college made up of elected councilors at the Sector level, District and City of Kigali.
