Fire safety and security evacuation drills conducted at city hall building

Wednesday, 16 August - The City of Kigali, in collaboration with Rwanda Police Fire Brigade, conducted a public awareness through evacuation drills to enhance awareness on fire safety and the importance of responding effectively to the potential security threats in various buildings.

The exercise aimed to educate City Hall staff about the proper procedures to follow during fire emergencies, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and the use of firefighting equipment. It also created a sense of confidence and readiness among City Hall staff and visitors, ensuring their safety and well-being during emergencies.

In his remarks, the City Vice Mayor in Charge of Urbanisation and Infrastucture Dr. Merard Mpabwanamaguru, explained the aim to conduct that exercise

“We need to educate participants about the proper procedures to follow during fire emergencies, including evacuation routes, assembly points, and the use of firefighting equipment. We are also raising awareness about security protocols and measures that can be taken to prevent and respond to potential security threats within City Hall premises.”

"Such exercise instills a sense of confidence and readiness among City Hall staff and visitors by ensuring their safety and well-being during emergencies", Dr Merard added.
