First Lady Attends Car Free Day in the awareness of NCDs and HIV AIDS

 Her Excellency, First lady Jeannette Kagame has joined Kigali residents and participants who attend The International Conference on AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA) in the bi-monthly sport activity known as ‘Car Free Day’

This particular Car Free Day was dedicated on raising awareness about non-communicable diseases and HIV AIDS in line with World AIDS day that was celebrated on December, 1st, 2019.

The activity started at Remera Stade Amahoro and ended at Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA)on Sunday, 1st December, 2019.

 Her Excellency Jeannette Kagame was accompanied by government officials including the Minister of Sports, Aurore Mimosa Munyangaju, the Minister of Health, Dr. Diane Gashumba, Minister of Youth and Culture Mbabazi Rosemary, Mayor of City of Kigali Rubingisa Pudence among others.

Among the guests who attended this sports event were Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization and the deputy director of UNAIDS, Shannon Hader.

It was also attended by delegates who arrived in the country to attend the International Conference on Aids and Sexually Transmitted Infections in Africa (ICASA).

During today’s Car Free Day, participants got free medical check-ups aimed at preventing and fighting Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and they get HIV test.

ICASA conference will take place at the Kigali Convention Center from the 2nd to the 7th December, 2019 and will attract more than 10,000 participants. It will focus on talks about the AIDS epidemic, non-communicable diseases (NCDs)and other sexually transmitted diseases in Africa.

Car Free Day was launched in May, 2016 with the aim of sensitizing Kigali residents to adopt the good culture of sports and exercising and also encouraging them to test for HIV AIDS and non-communicable diseases. It is done on every first and third Sunday of the month.
