Today the mayor of Kigali city Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira officially openned the ’Beautify My Kigali week’. The week is aimed at mobilising the city residents to work towards making the city Clean, green and safe.

The events of the day were started with the launch of the construction of a ’green retaining wall’ on the Giporoso-Kanombe road. A local construction company COTRACO has supported this initiative by constructing over 100 meters of intelocking blocks worth Rwf 30 million.

Following the launch the Mayor of Kigali city meet the population at Nyamirambo Regional stadium where they were treated to songs and drama of hygiene by local artists.

Addressing the population the mayor urged the residents of the city to be responsible and own this initiative of keeping kigali clean and green. "This is not only the leadership’s initiative but it is also yours, we all have to be responsible for a clean city" she said. She told the population that this Beautify my Kigali campaign will take about one month and it will be closed with the recognition of the best performers.
