The population of Kimisagara joined the rest of the World to mark the International Women’s Day celebrated on March 8th each year.
In his remarks, the Director of Labor in the City of Kigali, Mr. Ndakengerwa Aimable, who was representing Her Worship the Mayor, said that the City of Kigali will always support women’s initiatives aiming at developing themselves and their country.
“I urge you to participate in all programs and activities organized by different institutions aiming at promoting your welfare. I would like to see your work appreciated during the Kigali City Festival”, said Mr. Ndakengerwa.

The International Women’s Day 2010 United Nations theme is "Equal rights, equal opportunities: Progress for all."
“Gender equality doesn’t mean to become rebellious towards men”, said the Vice Mayor of Nyarugenge District, Mrs. MUKARUNYANA Brigitte.
She added that when not very well understood, gender equality becomes source of tension in families which at times leads to violence.
The host, Mr. Masengesho Felix, executive secretary of Kimisagara sector said that the population should continue to fight against all forms of gender based violence.
A big crowd attended that ceremony held in Kamuhoza in Kimisagara sector. Different authorities from the grass root level to the city level also attended.
On this occasion, the City of Kigali has offered Rwf 1,200,000 in cash prizes to three women who have excelled in entrepreneurship, each from one district.

International Women’s Day has been observed since 1911. According to the official International Women’s Day Website, the day was started by Clara Zetkin (Leader of the ’Women’s Office’ for the Social Democratic Party in Germany).
