On this Tuesday 4th December 2008, the Mayor of the City of Kigali, Dr. Aisa Kirabo Kacyira presented the Kigali City Master Plan and detailed plans to local businessmen members of the Private Sector Federation (PSF) gathered at Prime Holdings in the Kigali Investors Forum (KIF).
In his welcome remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Private Sector Federation, Mr. Faustin Mbundu thanked the City authorities for this occasion and particularly on the good working relations between the PSF and the City of Kigali.
In her allocution, Dr. Kirabo said that there was a previous presentation about a conceptual master plan in the previous meeting held between the City of Kigali and the Private Sector Federation. “For the moment we have a more detailed plan elaborated by a team of consultants called Surbana from Singapore” revelead Dr. Kirabo.
The Mayor also informed the business community about the awards received by the City Council on behalf of the People of Kigali. These are the Best Overall Participation in the Parliamentary elections 2008, the UN Habitat Scroll of Honour 2008 and others.
The main presentation was made by Ms. Lilian Mupende, Director of Urban Planning in the City of Kigali. The presentation was divided in three main parts; the Kigali City Conceptual Master Plan, the Development of the Central Business District and the Kinyinya Residential Township.
A series of questions followed the presentation. Many participants were impressed by the quality of the work done so far. Crucial questions regarding the expropriation process, the detailed study on the financial capacity of potential investors and the protection of wetlands were raised and the Mayor promised to take the given recommendations into consideration.
The Mayor thanked the workshop participants and asked for a continuous support in the development of the City. She also informed the assembly that the next workshop would be held on this Friday 5th December with Media representatives.
