On Tuesday 15th of January 2007, Kigali city held its 2007 fourth term accountability day at the Kigali City Mayor’s garden. The event attracted a big population despite the rain that had started earlier before the beginning that was scheduled at 8h00 am. By 8h30 due to the rain, people had started to come though in small number and were showed around different departments by various department professionals. While in different departments they (people) were explained on which projects the city had envisaged in the year 2007 and how they were executed and those that the city managed to complete or those that are on course. However, the people were also given discussions on which priority areas that will attract, on behalf of the population, the city’s attention in the year 2008.
The program of the day, as it is always scheduled, was followed by a public presentation by the Executive Secretary of Kigali City Council. The presentations included a 2007 annual activities report, and 2008 activity action plan, specifically activities of the first term (January to April 2008). After the presentations, the Mayor welcomed comments and ideas from the attending population that included the Kigali City Urban council, representatives of the Police and Army authority, group associations operating in Kigali City, journalists from different media houses, members of the Civil society like churches, NGO’s etc. The Kigali City mayor, assisted by the vice mayors, the executive secretary and concerned unit directors answered and reacted to various questions from the population. The meeting ended at 13h00 and the day was concluded by a press conference that was held by the mayor in the Kigali city urban council meeting hall.
