
Minister Musoni James
The Minister of Local Government Musoni James has called upon the citizens to refuse to pay extra fees on services. The Minister made this call while officiating the swearing in ceremony of new councilors of the Council of the City of Kigali.
Minister Musoni pointed out that there is a tendency of local leaders charge the citizens extra fees not commensurate to the services they are seeking. He gave an example of citizen who come to local leaders to acquire identity cards but are also forced to pay for example: security fees, cleaning fees, SACCO contributions and many more.
"The citizens should reject this treatment like they rejected corruption," said Minister Musoni.
He pointed out that local leaders who will be engaged in such malpractice will be punished. He called upon the councilors to follow up this issue and mobilise the citizens to reject this malpractice.
Minister Musoni also called upon councilors to be true representatives of the population. He advised them to always seek contributions from the population for every decision that is going to discussed in the council and also give feedback to their constituencies. He encouraged all councilors to work as a team and to always strive be winners.
The new councilors are Babona Jean de la Fontaine representing the youth and Ndonkeye Valence who will represent people living with disabilities.
